Solidarity with our Vancouver Filipino Community and Resources for Support
Our hearts weigh heavily learning of the tragedy that occurred at the Lapu Lapu Festival in Vancouver where innocent lives were taken, several injured, and countless folx impacted.
We send our deepest and sincerest condolences to the Filipino Canadian community who have lost loved ones and those devastated by this horrifying incident that disrupted what was intended to be a safe place of gathering in celebration. In solidarity, we grieve alongside and follow the lead of our kababayan in Vancouver.
We are in the process of maintaining a pulse on trusted organizations and sources to support and other methods of mutual aid for those directly affected.
Grief can show up in many ways — sadness, anger, confusion, or the urgent need for action — and however you are feeling, know there is no "right" way to mourn. But it is important to seek support with trusted people as you move through it.
The resources listed below are just a starting point, and we encourage everyone to honor their own healing in ways that feel true and necessary.
Out of care for community, we also ask that people refrain from circulating videos from the event, as doing so can retraumatize those who are already in deep pain.
Extending our loving support to you all.
Take good care of yourself and each other.
In Kapwa,
KKC Team
