KAPWA CAFÉ
Our Mission
We are Kapwa Kultural Center (KKC), and our mission is simple: to create a welcoming space that supports cultural identity and strengthens community connections.
As a historic social enterprise in Daly City, we're rooted in the values of Kapwa and Ginhawa, serving the Filipino/a/x community and the wider public.
Beyond just a gathering space, we are a hub for healing and growth. We provide specialized health and wellness services focused on youth mental well-being, while also offering a diverse array of programs that help our community connect with their Filipino cultural identity.
Our offerings, designed to empower our community, are built with local support and guided by the insights of community leaders, helping each person find their voice and flourish.

Our Story
KKC grew out of the passion of two Pinay mental health clinicians, Stephanie Balon and Christi Morales-Kumasawa, who have dedicated their careers to uplifting the Filipino community. Their journey began more than a decade ago with the Filipino Mental Health Initiative of San Mateo County, where they worked to connect Filipinos with culturally rooted resources. As co-chairs, they envisioned a new approach to community well-being — one that wove culture, healing, and connection into everyday life.
In 2018, that vision took shape with a $2.5 million grant to launch a groundbreaking social enterprise. By 2024, their dream became reality with the opening of Kapwa Café — more than a boba shop, it is the heart of KKC. Every drink purchased directly supports programs that empower youth and provide safe, welcoming spaces for the community to connect, heal, and grow.
