Photovoice exhibit: BIPOC Youth-Led Activism Towards Healing Nature Spaces

Join the Hood 2 Woods Photovoice research team and participants as we share the findings of our health equity research study. Support and learn from BIPOC students at SF State, who aim to make healing in nature more possible for youth of color using photos and stories. We invite you to share your feedback on how our work can impact policies."

This photovoice exhibit reflects the images and narratives captured by transitional-age youth (18-26) residing in the San Francisco Bay Area who identify as Black, Latinx, Pilipino, and/or Pacific Islander participating in a research project entitled “Examining Anti-Racist Healing in Nature to Protect Telomeres of Transitional Age BIPOC for Health Equity,” also known as “Hood 2 Woods.” Participants were trained in Photovoice and the SHOWeD methodologies for reflecting on experiences in nature in order to answer these research questions: a) What does healing in nature mean to you? b) How can green spaces be more welcoming? and c) What do green spaces in anti-racist park systems look like? These photos document strengths, challenges, hopes, and fears, and were followed by reflection pieces by the students and rich discussions as a cohort.
