For Filipinos, the parol is more than a lantern — it’s a symbol of hope, home, and togetherness. Making parols in community helps us honor tradition, brighten our shared space, and pass this meaningful practice on to the next generation.

Each session will be hosted by a KKC team member who will guide you step-by-step in making your own parol and customizing it with your unique style. Whether you grew up making parols or this will be your first time, all ages and skill levels are welcome.

This week’s sessions is hosted by Melissa de Mata. Melissa de Mata is a photographer and crafter at heart, working with KKC this past year to bring our story and community messaging to life. She loves any excuse to create something by hand — especially with others.

♻️ Tradition Meets Creativity & Sustainability

For this session, we’ll be celebrating the traditional art of parol-making while also embracing sustainable, creative practices. Along with the materials we’ll provide to create the base, we invite you to bring items from home that can be repurposed into your lantern — think paper scraps, fabric, ribbon, magazine clippings, branches, packaging, or anything with a story.

The more unique, the better. Let’s get creative, resourceful, and rooted in tradition as we craft parols that reflect both our heritage and our imagination. 🌟♻️
