Amulit's Album Release: Event Recap

On June 27, Kapwa Café transformed into a vibrant space for community, creativity, and cultural resistance during Amulit’s Soul Work album release event—a celebration of music, healing, and collective empowerment.

The event kicked off with an interactive scratch table by DeeArSkratch, giving folks a chance to get a feel for what it’s like to be a DJ. Live performers ranged from spoken word poets, rappers, and a DJ all showcasing their amazing talent.

Naturally, in a space centered around community, the event also carried messages of awareness and action. One powerful message was the call to defend ethnic studies, especially as the subject faces increasing challenges in school districts across the Bay Area. With curriculum rollbacks and political efforts to silence ethnic studies, artists and educators like Amulit remind us why these teachings, rooted in identity, history, and resistance, remain vital to our communities. The call to action was clear and urgent…

Kapwa Café’s drinks flowed nonstop, delighting both familiar faces and first-time visitors alike. The crowd radiated energy and connection, transforming a classic fogtown evening into a space filled with warmth, music, and community.
