Introducing our Summer ‘26 Interns!

This summer, Kapwa Kultural Center is proud to continue its partnership with Youth Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Employment of San Mateo (YEEE!)’s youth workforce development program.

Rooted in the belief that education is for liberation, YEEE! prepares young people through empowerment, entrepreneurship, and employment. Throughout the program, our interns participate in professional development, financial literacy, wellness workshops, portfolio building, and hands-on work-based learning while deepening their understanding of community and their cultural identity.

This summer, we welcomed six inspiring young adults who are gaining experience across our café, social media, marketing, and administration teams. We are excited to support their growth as they develop valuable skills and become future leaders in our communities.

Arie (she/her)

Born and raised in Daly City, Arie is a 20-year-old Filipina studying Managerial Economics and Accounting at UC Davis. She is the Event and Marketing Intern at KKC and has been interning since last summer. In her free time, she enjoys artistic activities and grabbing good eats with friends.

“ I am deeply grateful for this program and for KKC because I get to use my marketing skills to serve the Filipinx community and work alongside strong Filipina leaders I deeply admire and look up to as role models.”

Ben Angelo (he/him)

Ben Angelo is a recent graduate from San Francisco State University with a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration of Marketing. He is 23 years old and a proud Filipino—born in San Francisco and raised in Colma. For Kapwa Kultural Center, he is a Marketing Intern and has been working with KKC since March. He loves taking pictures, going to the gym, playing sports such as pickleball, basketball, bowling, as well as exploring SF.

“I am so excited to be a part of this amazing internship because it gives me a chance to express myself creatively. I use my marketing skills to help create social media posts and other campaigns for KKC. And on top of that, I get to work alongside some of the most hardworking Filipina leaders I've ever met.”

Cael (he/him)

Cael is one of the Kapwa Café interns this summer! He is 20 years old and currently attends Las Positas Community College. He is also half Black & Filipino. He play 3 forms of drums, including: percussion, drum-set (jazz or otherwise), and marching band (quad or tenor drums). He enjoys playing Nintendo video games and watching anime.

“I joined Kapwa because of welcoming community & atmosphere! Being a part of this program has brought out more of my confidence and has taught me a lot about myself.”

Evan (he/him)

Evan is our other café intern! He is an 18-year-old Filipino studying Communications and Business/Psychology at Skyline College in hopes of transferring to UC San Diego. He is an avid reader and music enthusiast. He also enjoys playing video games. Evan has an extensive history with service work and want to continue that line of work in the future.

“I joined KKC to better refine my skills as a leader and a speaker. However, I also wanted job experience as this is my first job ever so far. It’s been quite a long journey but I have gained many skills from it, such as the ability to multi task in high stress moments.”

Mariska (she/her)

Mariska Ramos is an 18-year-old student studying Public Health at Skyline College. She is a proud Filipina who just recently moved back to the Bay! She helps with administrative work for KKC’s operations alongside directly supporting the Board Members. She loves the Sanrio Character Usahana and in her free time she loves to bake.

“I joined KKC's program to be more involved with supporting my community, having just moved back to the area. I've been able to learn more about the "behind-scenes" on non-profits, and the work that goes behind running one.”

Michelle (she/her)

Michelle is a 24-year-old Filipina who recently graduated from San Francisco State University’s School of Cinema. She is currently a Marketing Intern for Kapwa Kultural Center, specializing in social media. In her free time, she likes to cook, watch movies, and make art.

“I joined the internship program because I wanted to find more ways to help out with our community here in Daly City, as well as attain more skills for the workforce. Working for Kapwa/YEEE!, I gained a sense of belonging, a community that I could rely on and bond with. I gained a sense of purpose in what my future will bring with the skills that I've currently attained from working with these programs.”
